2018 BMW 7 Series
Locally-assembled in Inokom Kulim plant, the 740Le hits the road at RM598,800 before insurance thanks to substantial tax incentives from the Malaysian Government; the car would have been priced at RM853,800 otherwise. Following the introduction, the 740Le now becomes the sole variant of the 7 Series being offered in Malaysia.
The 740Le xDrive also happens to be the fourth plug-in model in BMW Group Malaysia’s line-up after the i8, X5 xDrive40e, and 330e.
The internal combustion engine for the 740Le is the B48 twin-scroll turbo unit as found in the outgoing 730Li and quoted with the same outputs – 258 hp and 400Nm.
Combined outputs of engine and motor adds up to 326 hp and 500Nm, identical in power to the 6-cylinder 3.0-litre 740Li, but with 50Nm more torque. This advantage translates to a 0.2-second advantage in the 740Le’s century sprint time of 5.3 seconds. A fully charged lithium-ion battery pack (9.2 kWh) is able to deliver nearly 40 km of combustion engine-free driving, and also able to cruise at up to 130 km/h.
The chassis of the new 7 series is exceptionally light, thanks to the hybrid construction utilizing carbon fibre, aluminium and ultra-high strength steel.
The fuel tank specifications are similar as seen in the 5 Series hybrid and non-hybrid models. The tank in the 740 Le is only capable of carrying 46 litres, translating to more refills should one frequent long travels on the North-South highway.
Key features in this ‘GTI Limousine’ include: BMW Laser lighting technology in the headlamps, adaptive cruise control with steering control, Nappa upholstery and instrument panel covering, panoramic glass roof Sky Lounge, Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers, rear seats with massaging function, and entertainment system that includes two 10-inch monitors.
All mainstream BMW models sold by BMW Malaysia come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty that is manufacturer backed, and the program includes free scheduled service and maintenance of up to 100,000 km. The warranty program is in accordance with the BMW Condition Based Service (CBS) status, which includes a service vehicle check, engine oil service, oil filter and refill quantity.
For components covered within the program, air filters, fuel filters, micro filters, spark plugs and brake fluid are all included – front and rear brakes, inclusive of discs and pads, and windscreen wipers have been excluded.

BMW 740Le (G12) – You will want this over the S400
Compared to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the interior of the BMW may not exude the same luxurious ambience, but the latter still edges ahead in terms of overall ease-of-use and ergonomics. In addition, we reckon that the 740Le also takes the crown when it comes to in-car technologies.View full review
