The all-new BMW X3 is now in its third generation, carrying the G01 sales code. Much like its X5 sibling, the X3 is a creator of the Sports Activity vehicle in its mid-size premium segment. Rivals include Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, Lexus RX, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jaguar F-Pace.
Customers who are upgrading from entry premium sedans such as BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-class and Audi A4 have vehicles in this SUV segment in their sight as these premium models offer more space and features whilst maintain the premium drive and feel that they are accustomed to.
The all-new BMW X3 was launched in April 2018, with the xDrive30i Luxury variant priced from RM320,000. The engine upfront is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, pumping out 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque. As with all modern BMW models, the transmission is a 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic. Drive is sent to all four wheels, with the X Drive system cleverly delivering torque-bias between the front and rear axle. Automatic Differential Brake (ADB-X) meanwhile channels power to the wheel with most traction when the X3 is traversing the most difficult unpaved conditions.
With local assembly front the outstart, deliveries for the new X3 xDrive30i will begin from July 2018.
In the Luxury variant, standard exterior features are chrome trim on the bumpers and side sills. Matt chrome is also found on the window surround and roof rails. The wheels are 19-inch double spoke design with 245/50 run-flat tyres. The windshield glass is also an acoustic glass-type, which cuts out plenty of unwanted noise.
The head lamps are have LED feature with high-beam assistant. There is also a Welcome Light carpet below the side sills.
Inside, the instrument panel is covered with Sensatec faux leather with constrast stitching to provide a more premium ambience. The switches are also plated with a satin finish. Following the footsteps of the new 5 series and 7 series, the meter display is a full LCD display, measuring up to 12.3 inches. Other features include sports front seats, automatic air conditioning with 3-zone control, ambient lighting, keyless entry with contactless tailgate operation, rear seat with 40:20:40-split, and high-gloss wood trim.
The infotainment system consists of a high-resolution wide format 10.25-inch display, a 12-speaker premium sound system with 20GB audio storage, navigation, and BMW Malaysia’s own telematics service called BMW ConntectedDrive.
All mainstream BMW models sold by BMW Malaysia come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty that is manufacturer backed, and the program includes free scheduled service and maintenance of up to 100,000 km. Unlike earlier BMW X3 models, the new G01 BMW X3 blends high quality materials into a reasonably good looking SUV, whilst offering superior driving experience over some of its key rivals. We dare say that the X3's interior is a nicer place to be in than the Mercedes-Benz GLC, thanks to BMW's intuitive controls and ease of use, though the interior design of the GLC may seal the deal for some.View full review
