Customers have three variants to choose from – xDrive40e, xDrive30d and xDrive35i, which are priced at RM388,800, RM533,800 and RM573,800 respectively. Competition for this German SUV comes in the form of the Volkswagen Touareg, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Audi Q7, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Infiniti QX70 and Lexus RX.
The most affordable xDrive40e petrol plug-in hybrid variant is powered by a 245hp/350Nm 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine and a 113hp/250Nm synchronous electric motor combo, which offeres a total system output of 313hp and 450Nm of torque. This hybrid SUV also has an impressive electric-only range of 31km, with a top speed of 120km/h.
The 2017 BMW X5 xDrive30d features a 3.0-litre turbodiesel inline-six. Power output is rated at 258hp and 560Nm of torque - the latter kicks in at an early 1500rpm. The pricier petrol xDrive35i on the other hand is motivated by a direct-injected six-pot petrol mill with a twin-scroll turbo, which is good for 306hp and 400Nm of torque. All variants utilise the silky smooth ZF torque converter type eight-speed automatic transmission to send power to all four wheels.
