Overview
The 2016 BMW X4 is one of two coupe SUVs that BMW Malaysia sells here. Dubbed as the ‘baby X6’, the Bavarian high-rider sits on the underpinnings of the BMW X3. It competes with likes of Lexus NX, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and also the entry-level Porsche Macan. Sold here only in the xDrive28i trim, the X4 carries a starting price of RM396, 800.
Those who need some extra sportiness can opt for the optional RM30,000 M Sport package, which adds different style rims, chrome exhaust tips, M specific bodykit, heads-up display, sports seats as well as a 16 speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Under the hood of the coupe SUV is a turbocharged petrol inline-four that churns out 245hp at 5,000 to 6,500rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1,250 to 4,800rpm. Power is channelled to all four corners via an eight-speed sports automatic transmission with Steptronic. The ‘baby X6’ is capable of scooting from a standstill to 100km/h in 6.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 232km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.3-litres per 100km, while CO2 emissions are 169g/km.
Exterior highlights include 19-inch Y-spoke sport rims, dual tailpipes, matt aluminium accents, LED fog lights and Xenon headlights with automatic range control. Besides that, rain sensor, automatic start-stop function, brake energy regeneration, rear view camera, cruise control, Dynamic Damper Control, Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Performance Control, with on-demand variable torque spilt at the rear wheels are fitted as standard.
The interior features two-zone automatic air-conditioning, powered front seats, split folding rear seats, keyless engine start as well as an automatic tailgate operation. In terms of entertainment, the 2015 BMW X4 xDrive28i gets an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth, navigation, DVD, USB and AUX functions.
Active headrests, six airbags, dynamic braking lights, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), rollover sensor and run-flat tires are standard affair on the BMW X4.
