2022 BMW X2

It is inevitable, that as the X3 and X5 both spawned their respective ‘coupe’ derivatives, the X1’s underpinnings was eventually going to be exploited for the same purpose.

The all-new BMW X2 is the first ever model of the nameplate and whilst mechanically it is a reskinned X1, BMW is keen to utilize the full might of its competent marketing machine to ensure that, where the consumer is concerned, the X2 is presented as a sufficiently differentiated product.

Appearance-wise, the X2 re-writes many familiar BMW design cues in a bid to forge its own unique visual identity. Noteworthy touches include kidney grilles that now widen downwards. There is also the return of the C-pillar-mounted BMW roundel last seen in classic coupes like the 2000 CS and 3.0 CSL.

For Malaysia, only one variant is offered - the X2 sDrive20i - powered by a transverse 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 192 hp and 280 Nm, paired to a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic transmission driving the front wheels.

Standard features include LED headlights, M Sport package which includes bumpers, 19-inch wheels and sports suspension, foot rest, steering wheel and key fob, roof rails, Comfort Access keyless entry, powered tailgate, reverse camera and an 8.8-inch infotainment system with navigation. 

All mainstream BMW models sold by BMW Malaysia come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty that is manufacturer backed, and the program includes free scheduled service and maintenance of up to 100,000 km. The warranty program is in accordance with the BMW Condition Based Service (CBS) status, which includes a service vehicle check, engine oil service, oil filter and refill quantity.

For components covered within the program, air filters, fuel filters, micro filters, spark plugs and brake fluid are all included – front and rear brakes, inclusive of discs and pads, and windscreen wipers have been excluded.
