Sime Darby Auto ConneXion’s representative to the ever-growing SUV segment with models like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Subaru XV, Kia Sportage, Peugeot 3008, Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan is the Ford Kuga that features the carmaker’s much praised EcoBoost engine. It is offered here only in a sole variant with a price tag of RM164,888, fully-imported from Spain.

The EcoBoost turbocharged engine featured in the Kuga in Malaysia is the 1.6-litre GTDI four-cylinder unit that makes 180 PS at 5,700rpm and 240 Nm of torque 2,400rpm. Power is sent to all four corners via a six-speed Select Shift automatic transmission. Ford claims the mid-size Kuga is capable of achieving a fuel economy figure of 7.7-litres per 100km, while also being capable of achieving a top speed of 200km/h.

The Ford Kuga's advanced AWD system readjusts the power split between the front and rear at a rate of every 16 milliseconds. The result of the AWD technology featured here in the Ford Kuga ensures the SUV’s maximum-possible grip in all conditions such as rain and other varying surfaces.

“This is a very robust system, tested and tuned around the world in many conditions,” says Joe Torres, senior engineer, all-wheel-drive system development.

The power distribution by the AWD system can be monitored by the driver through the LCD screen in the meter cluster.

The Ford Kuga is poised to not only traverse all kinds of terrain with ease; its Torque Vectoring Control system (featured on the likes of the Focus ST) also aids the SUV’s handling in dry-weather. Below speeds of 30km/h, the AWD system emphasises traction while speeds above 30km/h sets the system to improve driving feel, handling and response.

One feature that Ford is proud of the contact-less powered tail gate - a first in Malaysia. When the owner wave his/her foot below the rear bumper, the tail gate unlocks and slowly rises, a great convenience after shopping, with hands full of groceries or bags.
