Known as the M4 back in 2014, the H1 is a compact crossover by Chinese car maker Great Wall Motor.
Currently, it is distributed by Go Autosales Sdn. Bhd. and the Haval H1 is locally assembled at Go Automobile Manufacturing Sdn. Bh.d in Gurun, Kedah.
Measuring 3,961 mm long, 1,728 mm wide and 1,617 mm tall, the M4 is slightly longer than the '90s-era Perodua Kembara, which was never replaced by any model after it was discontinued in the early 2000s.
It is however significantly smaller than Ford's EcoSport, Nissan's X-Gear, and Peugeot's 2008.
Pricing starts from RM61,950 for the Comfort variant, an additional RM6,000 for the Premium and the Elite tops off at RM74,950.
Riding on a 2,383 mm long wheelbase, the H1's interior space is less cosy than a 2,400 mm long Perodua Myvi, even less so if it is an SUV, due to the inherent packaging limitations of such a body type.
Powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder VVT MPI engine producing 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque, the big news with the Haval H1 is that there will no longer be a manual version, as all variants will come with a semi-automatic AMT gearbox.
Standard features include 16-inch wheels, ESC, cruise control, dual airbags, 6-inch touchscreen audio unit with DVD player, and roof rails.
The Premium gets additional features such as leather seat upholstery, reverse camera, GPS navigation and built-in Smart Tag / Touch n' go reader in the rearview mirror bracket.
And then, the Elite gets more accessories which are projector head lamps with DRL, front armrest, driving video recorder, and window tinting film.
According to Go Auto, Haval H1 Elite units that are purchased through official authorised channels will come with a 7-year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty.
