Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Review
You could argue that the way was paved for the current generation of Jaguar models by the Jaguar F-Type convertible, which really helped to showcase what Jaguar is capable of when they can let their hair down and design a truly impressive sports car for the modern luxury car consumer. But much like how other luxury automakers saw huge renewed interest in the brand thanks through the development and production of SUV models, the Jaguar F-Pace is what represents Jaguar’s first foray into this particular niche.
And much like the F-Type, the Jaguar F-Pace proved to be a huge hit. It only came into the world in the mid 2010s, and is still in the first generation of its history. In its first year of sales, which happened to be partial, it managed to become the best-selling Jaguar model and continues until this day.
The model was launched locally back in 2018 in a singular variant, with a limited edition model introduced in 2020 and a slow expansion of the number of variants officially available. For now, the total number of variants stands at four – inclusive of the range-topping Jaguar F-Pace 5.0 SVR that is more of a special order product.
In June,2022, JLR Malaysia unveiled a refreshed F-Pace, featuring a slick new exterior and sophisticated yet plush interior features.
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Specifications
Ingenium is a name you’re going to see fairly often when it comes to both Jaguar and Land Rover products, and it’s essentially their line of engines that come packaged in their vehicles. As mentioned earlier, there is a 5.0-litre SVR variant of the Jaguar F-Pace that sits at the tip of the line-up, making an incredibly healthy 550 PS and 680 Nm of torque from it’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, but that represents more of a special import case through official channels.
For the other three variants that are officially on offer here, buyers get a singular engine choice of a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine pushing 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque. All variants get the same eight-speed conventional automatic transmission from ZF – yes, the kind that first appeared in BMW models and slowly became the dominant transmission among luxury vehicles.
The refreshed 2022 F-PACE comes only in the 250PS R-Dynamic variant, featuring the 2.0-litre four-cylinder 250PS Ingenium petrol engine that produces 365Nm of torque which helps it accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds.
In terms of the platform, the Jaguar F-Pace sits on a lighter, newer platform known as the D7a, and that is what contributes to both its handling and ride comfort qualities. Dimensionally the car comes in at 4,731 mm long, 2,175 mm wide, and 1,667 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,874 mm and a cargo area in the boot of 650 litres.
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Exterior
The F-PACE now features a more sculpted bonnet as well as super-slim, all-LED quad headlights, which give the F-PACE an even bolder appearance. The new headlight design is 10mm slimmer than before and features Jaguar's ‘Double J’ Daytime Running Light (DRL), providing greater visual width to enhance its stance.
At the rear, the new tailgate also accentuates the visual width of the vehicle, and the new all-LED rear lights with sculpted lenses are inspired by the fully electric I-PACE and feature Jaguar’s chicane graphic, showcasing the modernity of the overall design.
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Interior
On the inside, the new cockpit design is bolder and features a greater focus on the driver. The interior also now feels more spacious, thanks to the contrasting use of colour where the interior is in one tone to enhance the sense of space.
The new Drive Selector epitomises Jaguar’s approach to contemporary controls. The soft upper trim wraps around the ‘palm grip’ and proudly features a ‘cricket-ball’ stitch, inspired by iconic British craftsmanship. Below, the precision-engineered metal cradle is sculpted for added tactility and an engaging quality feel.
The five-seater cabin features not only well-crafted leather upholstery but also practicality, courtesy of its 40:20:40 configuration that allows each seat to be folded completely or individually to accommodate occupants and bulky belongings.
To complement the practicality of the SUV, the 2022 Jaguar F-PACE has a centrally mounted intuitive 11.4-inch curved-glass HD touchscreen that operates the new Pivi Pro infotainment system, which provides greater clarity than ever before.
The intuitive system allows the driver to carry out 90% of common tasks within two taps from the home screen thanks to its simplified menu structure. Engineered around a smartphone-like interface, it features an intuitive touchscreen that allows drivers to go directly to what is needed. The infotainment system can now wirelessly connect to smartphones for occupants to experience the convenience of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Wireless device charging is also available for seamless connectivity.
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Safety Features
Safety items that are common to all variants of the Jaguar F-Pace are things like front and rear parking sensors, as well as lane keep assist and a driver condition monitor on top of your usual safety items. The 2022 model however adds a few more advanced active safety features, including:
- Emergency braking
- Adaptive cruise control and speed limiter.
- Clear exit monitor
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Pros & Cons
There’s no getting around the fact that the Jaguar F-Pace is not the most competitively priced product in its segment, but it’s always been difficult to determine exactly where Jaguar stands in the automotive food chain. The luxury brand was once known for being a tier above the German establishment, but in recent years the lines have become increasingly blurred and naturally building comparisons between the F-Pace and its competitors is a little easier.
Even so, and much like sister brand Land Rover, the Jaguar F-Pace is a car that remains that little bit more exclusive and interesting that your typical luxury SUV. It has enough performance and features and functionality to keep an owner happy and satisfied, but it’s in the intangibles that don’t get listed on the spec sheet where you find the real value in the brand – the way the interior smells, the incredible control over NVH, and the like.
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Price
The facelift F-Pace is priced from RM598,800 (with 10% SST and excluding Road Tax, Registration and Insurance).
The price includes Jaguar Care, which compromises of 5 years or 150,000km warranty, 5 years or 65,000km servicing and 3 years Jaguar roadside assistance.
Jaguar F-Pace 2022 Features
Further adding to its usability is the integrated Jaguar Drive Control technology, which features Comfort, Eco, Rain-Ice-Snow, and Dynamic modes that can be selected manually to meet various road conditions. In tandem, the Configurable Dynamics onboard enables the selection of engine response, gearbox shift points, and steering to suit personal preference.
The refreshed F-PACE also comes with an in-built segment-first Active Road Noise Cancellation technology which monitors and eliminates external noises. The technology constantly monitors vibrations from the road surface and calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise heard by occupants. This means quieter noise levels within the cabin and improved refinement that helps to reduce fatigue, commonly associated with prolonged exposure to low-frequency sound.
