Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Review

You could argue that the way was paved for the current generation of Jaguar models by the Jaguar F-Type convertible, which really helped to showcase what Jaguar is capable of when they can let their hair down and design a truly impressive sports car for the modern luxury car consumer. But much like how other luxury automakers saw huge renewed interest in the brand thanks through the development and production of SUV models, the Jaguar F-Pace is what represents Jaguar’s first foray into this particular niche.

And much like the F-Type, the Jaguar F-Pace proved to be a huge hit. It only came into the world in the mid 2010s, and is still in the first generation of its history. In its first year of sales, which happened to be partial, it managed to become the best-selling Jaguar model and continues until this day.

The model was launched locally back in 2018 in a singular variant, with a limited edition model introduced in 2020 and a slow expansion of the number of variants officially available. For now, the total number of variants stands at four – inclusive of the range-topping Jaguar F-Pace 5.0 SVR that is more of a special order product.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Specifications

Ingenium is a name you’re going to see fairly often when it comes to both Jaguar and Land Rover products, and it’s essentially their line of engines that come packaged in their vehicles. As mentioned earlier, there is a 5.0-litre SVR variant of the Jaguar F-Pace that sits at the tip of the line-up, making an incredibly healthy 550 PS and 680 Nm of torque from it’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, but that represents more of a special import case through official channels.

For the other three variants that are officially on offer here, buyers get a singular engine choice of a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine pushing 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque. All variants get the same eight-speed conventional automatic transmission from ZF – yes, the kind that first appeared in BMW models and slowly became the dominant transmission among luxury vehicles.

In terms of the platform, the Jaguar F-Pace sits on a lighter, newer platform known as the D7a, and that is what contributes to both its handling and ride comfort qualities. Dimensionally the car comes in at 4,731 mm long, 2,175 mm wide, and 1,667 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,874 mm and a cargo area in the boot of 650 litres.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Exterior

It’s interesting to see that in a world of rather radical and inspired designs, the Jaguar F-Pace remains remarkably true to the SUV form in a good way. The broad strokes are a two-box design, with elements from Jaguar’s most current design language plastered across it, tugged and touched up resulting In a truly stunning look regardless of which variant you choose.

Paint choices for every variant except the 5.0 SVR are limited to six options – Fuji White, Santorini Black, Eiger Grey, Portofino Blue, Firenze Red, and Indus Silver. Suffice to say most buyers will be picking the silver, white, or black as they’re the safer colour options, though it would be nice to see someone commit to the red paint option for a dash of colour among the fairly monochrome Malaysian traffic situation.

Wheel options for the Prestige and R-Sport variants are 20-inches in size, while the higher spec R-Sport variant gets 22-inch wheels instead – though both wheel options don’t look radically different from each other.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Interior

There are elements of the Jaguar F-Pace interior that are common regardless of which variant you choose – things like Luxtec door trim and gloss black trim finishers, dual-zone climate control and five power sockets throughout the cabin, and so on. All varaints also get perforated grained leather seats, with contrast stitching for the R-Sport variants. The higher-spec R-Sport variant gets a panoramic roof as well.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Safety Features

Safety items that are common to all variants of the Jaguar F-Pace are things like front and rear parking sensors, as well as lane keep assist and a driver condition monitor on top of your usual safety items. Blind spot monitor is limited to the R-Sport hi-spec variant, and of course you can customise and choose exactly which safety items you want when it comes to the 5.0 SVR as it is built to a customer’s specific order.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Strengths & Weakness

There’s no getting around the fact that the Jaguar F-Pace is not the most competitively priced product in its segment, but it’s always been difficult to determine exactly where Jaguar stands in the automotive food chain. The luxury brand was once known for being a tier above the German establishment, but in recent years the lines have become increasingly blurred and naturally building comparisons between the F-Pace and its competitors is a little easier.

Even so, and much like sister brand Land Rover, the Jaguar F-Pace is a car that remains that little bit more exclusive and interesting that your typical luxury SUV. It has enough performance and features and functionality to keep an owner happy and satisfied, but it’s in the intangibles that don’t get listed on the spec sheet where you find the real value in the brand – the way the interior smells, the incredible control over NVH, and the like.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Price

Pricing for the Jaguar F-Pace starts at RM 436,420.82 for the Prestige variant, while the lower-spec of the two R-Sport variant takes that price up to RM 470,212.97. The higher-spec R-Sport variant goes for RM 485,433.81, while the range-topping order-only basis SVR variant comes in at a whopping RM 1,058,800.00 – before you start ticking boxes on the options list. All variants with the exception off the SVR have prices quoted inclusive of the current SST exemptions by the Malaysian government.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Features

All variants get relatively similar items in terms of features and functionality – a ten-inch infotainment head unit sits front and centre on the dashboard, sporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, as well as in-built navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. All variants also get an eleven speaker Meridian sound system, as well as cruise control (though the higher spec R-Sport variant gets adaptive cruise control instead). The R-Sport variants also get ambient interior lighting to take things up a notch, and the higher-spec R-Sport gets blind spot assist and high-speed emergency braking, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster over the 5-inch display of the other variants. All variants also get ten-way electrically adjustable front seats.

These features are specific to the variants available here except for the SVR, where the feature list is up to the customer as this variant is fully imported and customized before your order is placed.

Jaguar F-Pace 2021-2022 Fuel Consumption

For the turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol powertrains in most variants of the Jaguar F-Pace available locally, the manufacturer quoted fuel consumption figure is 7.7-litres per 100 kilometres, or 13.0 kilometres per litre of fuel. The 5.0 SVR is significantly more thirsty at 11.7 litres per 100 kilometres, or 8.5 kilometres per litre. In all of these cases it’s important to remember that these engines have forced induction, which means that fuel consumption can become significantly worse if you drive these cars aggressively or at prolonged higher speeds.
