Overview

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the carmaker’s latest iteration of its popular compact sedan. For 2018, three locally assembled variants are available to choose from, starting with the entry level C200 AMG retails that for RM 254,888. The W205 C-Class is underpinned by the marque’s all-new Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform that uses aluminium extensively in order to make it lighter yet rigid. It faces stiff competition from models like the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Lexus IS & ES, Jaguar XE, and Infiniti Q50.

All regular C-class sedans are assembled in Pekan, Malaysia. Powering the C-Class sedan range is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that is available in various states of tune depending on the variant. The range topping C350e is a petrol-hybrid, therefore it also features an 81hp/340Nm electric motor, alongside the petrol engine.

For 2018, all C-Class sedan will be fitted with 'AMG Line' package, which consist of more aggressive front and rear bumper design, front grille integrating the large Mercedes-star with twin louvres, 18-inch AMG 5-spoke wheels, sports suspension with 15 mm lower height, sports braking system, sports-type front seats, black ash open-pore wood trim, analogue clock, and sports steering wheel.

C200 AMG Line – The engine outputs of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is capped at 184hp and 300 Nm of torque. The transmission was recently upgraded to a 9-ratio 9G-Tronic, which offers better performance and refinement. Standard features include LED headlamps, powered driver’s and passenger's seats with memory function, 3-colour ambient lighting, reverse camera, 7.0-inch infotainment system, manual sunblinds on rear doors, and ‘Active Brake Assist’ autonomous emergency braking system. Price of the C200 AMG Line starts at RM 254,888.

C250 AMG Line – The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine features a higher state of tune, generating 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Features are also increased, with inclusion of 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system, adaptive LED headlamps, panoramic moonroof, door-handle keyless entry and bootlid, and air conditioning with fragrance diffuser. The C250 AMG Line starts from RM 287,888

C350e AMG Line – This plug-in hybrid petrol-electric C-class sedan runs on the C250’s 211hp/350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine boosted by an additional 81hp and 340Nm from its electric motor. The combined efforts of these two power units yield a net system output of 279hp and 600Nm.

C350e powers its way from rest to 100km/h in sports car-like 5.9 seconds. Official fuel consumption is rated at 2.1 litres/100km corresponding to carbon dioxide emissions of 48 g/km. With a full charge of its 6.2 kWh traction battery, the C350e has the potential of covering 31km of ground in all-electric driving or reach a top speed of 130km/h. C350e exclusively gets Airmatic air suspension, 3-zone air conditioning with Pre-Entry Climate Control and priced from RM 299,888

Unique styling cues of the C350e include a pair of discreet “Plug-In Hybrid” badges at the front fenders, blue painted front brake calipers, and blue highlights in the headlamp assembly. With the large battery placed in the boot, the C350e also suffers that same packaging issue as Munich's BMW 330e PHEV, with reduction in boot capacity. The Mercedes-Benz C350e boot space is reduced to 335 litres, down from 480 litres.

That being said, the C350e takes less than 3 hours to fully charge its battery using a domestic 3-pin charger, that is included in all C350e. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia also provide branded charging bays with 3.6 kW chargers at Bangsar Shopping Centre, Pavilion KL and Sunway Pyramid shopping malls.

All new Mercedes-Benz C-class sedans come with a 4-year unlimited mileage warranty. Entry into the Mercedes-Benz ownership experience can be done in many ways, from traditional hire-purchase, to lease2go leasing program as well as the innovative low monthly repayment Agility scheme that also offers guaranteed future value.

    2017 Mercedes-Benz C200 (W205) – Nine-Speed Refinement

The addition of two extra ratios has given the C200 an extra dose of urgency when accelerating from standstill to around 140km/h, but the biggest improvement over the seven-speeder is its intuitiveness to look for gears up and down based on driving requirements. In addition to better fuel economy, the new-nine speed gearbox has given the C200 a substantial improvement in performance and refinement.
