The Nissan Teana is Nissan's answer to the executive sedan segment that is also a representation of the brand's global product. This segment has a model from almost all global brands - Toyota (Camry), Honda (Accord), Mazda (Mazda6), Kia (Optima), Hyundai (Sonata), Chevrolet (Malibu), Volkswagen (Passat), Peugeot (5008) and Ford (Mondeo).

Being a global model, much of the product attributes in the new Teana is more inclined towards the American consumers, its biggest market. The sportier drive, simple rear seat accommodation and overall interior ambience are more driver-oriented than chauffeur-driven, unlike its rivals.

The Teana comes with three variants, two of them powered by a 2.0-litre and the highest variant only in a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine. The entry 2.0 XE is priced from RM127,000.

Power outputs for the 2.0-litre engine are 136 PS and 190 Nm of torque, and the 2.5-litre engine punches out 173 PS and 234 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to the company's famed XTRONIC CVT-type automatic, with stepped-shifting to replicate full throttle acceleration through a set of gears for a sportier feel.

A new multi-link rear suspension is designed and tuned to provide the driver with a more responsive feel in cornering, making the Teana handle corners as if it is a smaller sedan.

To further improve cornering performance, the Teana has a feature called Active Understeer Control. When the driver inputs high amounts of throttle while cornering, the ESP will apply more brake pressure to the inner wheel to create a tighter turning line.

The Teana also comes with a 'hybrid' power steering system - electro-hydraulic. The system continues to use hydraulic pressure to provide assistance as this setup still provides the driver with a more natural weight and feeling. However, the pressure in the fluid is pressurized by an independent electric motor, reducing the engine's effort to drive the fluid pump.

Front occupants also benefit from a new seat design, dubbed Zero-gravity inspired seats that are designed to circulate the occupants' blood much better than traditional seat design, reducing fatigue.

Priced from RM151,500, the top-of-the-line 2.5 XV comes with all the niceties, such as 9-speaker BOSE Premium Audio, power rear windshield sunshade, a tilt-and-slide moonroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Xenon head lamps.

The middle variant called 2.0 XL, priced from RM135,300, gets leather seat upholstery with power adjustable driver's seat, a display audio system with a 5-inch screen with a reverse camera, and Fine Vision Meter with a 4-inch drive information display.

Standard features include 16-inch wheels, keyless entry with push start button, dual-zone automatic air conditioning with a rear duct, ECO mode, and split-folding rear seat.

Standard safety features include 6 airbags, ESP, Hill Start Assist, and ISOFIX anchors.

ETCM has also offered an aggressive NISMO tuning package for the Teana, that includes full bodykit, sports coil springs, and NISMO original 18-inch wheels.
