Peugeot’s answer to the C-Segment takes on a new chapter with the introduction of the all-new Peugeot 408 e-THP. Traditionally the non-mainstream option against the more established turbocharged rival such as the Volkswagen Jetta, Honda Civic, Ford Focus and even Korean offerings such as the Hyundai Elantra – the Peugeot 408 did, however, offer a continental twist on proceedings. Other rivals in this segment include Mazda 3, Kia Cerato K3 and Toyota Corolla Altis.
Now, in its second generation, the 408 now rests on the firm’s Efficient Modular Platform (EMP) 2 architecture that brings along with it crucial weight reductions and an assimilation towards the new Peugeot corporate profile. Perhaps now looking more like a sedan version of the 308 or a shrunken down silhouette of the Peugeot 508. Prices for the Peugeot 408 sedan starts from RM139,751.
A more powerful 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder is found in the 408. With 167 PS and 245 Nm, Peugeot claims a 0-100 km/h time of 8.2-seconds to a top speed of 215 km/h. Economy numbers stand at 6.5l/100km.
Only one variant is available is available at the outset which throws the kitchen sink worth of options such as Smart Park Assist II, Intelligent Keyless entry and start, Electric Parking Brake, power adjusting front seats with massaging function, and blind spot monitoring. Take note, however, the Peugeot 408 e-THP does without the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Dynamic Cruise Control offered on the sister Peugeot 308 THP hatchback.
