Overview

The Proton Iriz is dubbed to be a game changer for the national carmaker. It was developed new from ground up with the aim to be sold worldwide. This locally built B-segment hatch competes with cars like the Perodua Myvi, Honda Jazz, Kia Rio, Ford Fiesta Sport, Mazda 2 Hatchback, and Peugeot 208 Puretech. Offered with two engine options, the car is priced between RM42,397 and RM 56,950.

As previously mentioned, two engines are available for customers to choose from. Both were developed specially for the Proton Iriz. The entry level naturally aspirated 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine outputs a modest 94 bhp and 120 Nm of torque. The higher displacement 1.6-litre mill, on the other hand, develops 107 bhp at 5,750rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The CVT automatic is available in both engine capacities. However, if you would like to shift the gears on your own, you are only limited to the 1.3 Standard variant.

As practiced in all new Proton models, the Iriz has standard fitment of ESC with hill start assist across the range.

A minor update of the Iriz in 2017 added new refinements developed for the Persona sedan that included improved CVT calibration and a switch from four- to three-point engine mounts. A streamlined range now offers only four variants - 1.3 Standard manual and CVT, 1.3 Executive CVT, and 1.6 Premium CVT.

The Premium CVT also looks much sportier, with its gloss black treatment on the roof, door mirrors and front grille, full bodykit in dual-tone colour, a larger rear spoiler and sporty front seats in combination leather covering.

The basic warranty coverage for Proton vehicles is 5 years or 150,000-kilometre mileage, whichever occurs first.

2017 Proton Iriz - Better Than Before

The Proton Iriz is no stranger to us. The car was launched back in 2014 and we have sampled the Iriz in various guises. From the Iriz, Proton developed the all-new Persona, and the company has implemented knowledge gained from the Persona back to the Iriz.

Proton IRIZ 2019 - Premium

1. Performance The pairing of 1.6L engine alongside a CVT gearbox is adequate for daily drives. Although Proton proclaimed that they have vastly improved the pickup and powertrain performance, it would still jerks during pickup or low speed drives. But rest assured that the "jerkiness" has indeed vastly reduced as compared to the Iriz MC1 or Persona 2016 variant. Wishlist: let's hope that Proton would bring in 1.0T engine for next release of facelift. 2. Interior design The all black design is very sleek and sexy when compared to Persona 2019 MC1, where it reduces the cheap outlook of "plasticky" construction. However, majority of people would perceived that the interior space is rather cramped and vastly smaller than its rival (this includes Persona), as darken interior would defenitely deceive one's perception that the space is limited. The materials used for the car interior is now much more refined and sturdy, where those buttons no longer give you a "loosen" feel when operatings, the gaps between the joints of different parts are now tightly screwed together as well. My personal favourite on the interior would be the roofline, where the materials used are so classy and high quality; instead of using a rough recycled paper surface, Proton gives you a properly made high quality PVC/ cloth thingy, it's just so nice to touch. The all new meter cluster and head unit is definitely playing big role to set down new benchmark to its rival, where those new techs significantly boost up the car's premium feel. 3. Safety This car comes with ESC/traction control, HHA, HPF body construction and at least 2 airbags, it will give you a assurance on standard protection upon car collision. The head unit now also comes with dynamic line on the reverse camera, when paired up with front/ back parking sensors, chances of car kissing events will be greatly reduced. 4. Exterior design This is really subjective, but to me.. the car looks cool AF!

Where safety is first, saving is second

Performance quite ok in term of top speed, can reach 180km/h for 1.3 engine. But i realy dont like gearbox performance ; delay, noise, feel not respon enough. Exterior, i love the projector headlamp. Safety is the best thing i ever had. Got braking assist. Traction control. ABS. Hill assist. But the reverse sensor so wrong. Got to fix it. Lambat bunyi. Bunyi slow. Bahaya.
