Overview

Proton’s answer to C-segment sedans like the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Kia Cerato, Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla Altis, Ford Focus and Mazda 3 Sedan is the Proton Preve. The local sedan starts at RM 57,833 and tops off at RM71,317 with the Premium CVT variant.

Two 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines are available for customers to choose from. First is the naturally aspirated CamPro IAFM+ engine that outputs 107 bhp at 5,750rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine is offered solely in the two Executive variants. Reserved for the top of the range Premium version is a turbocharged motor (called CFE) that is good for 138 bhp and 205 Nm of torque.

In total there are three different transmissions offered across the Proton Preve line-up depending on the engine you go for. The 1.6-litre naturally aspirated mill can be had with a five-speed stick or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with six virtual cogs. The Preve CFE, on the other hand, is only available with a ProTronic seven-speed automatic CVT.

The Executive Manual and CVT are equipped with similar equipment, which includes fabric seats, a multi-functional steering wheel, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, Bluetooth connectivity, USB input, front and back fog lights, projector headlights and follow-me home lights.

Reserved for the turbocharged 1.6-litre CFE Premium Preve are auto fold side mirrors, a navigation system, paddle shifters, automatic climate control, a rear spoiler, push start ignition, cruise control, auto wipers and headlights.

There are six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, front active headrests, traction control and electronic stability control across the range to keep your journeys safe.

The basic warranty coverage for Proton vehicles is 5 years or 150,000-kilometre mileage, whichever occurs first.

Value for money but lacks of aesthetic

Overall performance for this car is good, handling is incredible with acceptable fuel consumption especially for long distance travel. However, what this car lack the most is its aesthetic value with fair interior and exterior design. - Less

Good value for money with good features

For the price of RM72,000, you're getting a lot features compare to other makes in the same category. Not only it is spacing with big boot space, it has a good power and handling to accommodate it. Moreover, the space parts for the car is affordable should any part replacement required. The only issue with this car is, the cabin is a bit noisy and has a bit higher fuel consumption, but overall it is acceptable. - Less

Bumpy and underpowered

The car is too bumpy for rear passengers, low end power is too slow, it's hard to take off from traffic lights or from standstill but on high end the acceleration is great and the mounting is weak. - Less
