Key Highlights
Overview
The second-generation Proton Perdana borrows its platform and mechanicals from the eighth generation (2008-2013) Honda Accord, but its exterior has been redesigned to differentiate it from the model it is based on.
Competition for this long awaited D-segmenter comes from cars such as the Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana, Peugeot 508 Sedan, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata as well as the Honda Accord. There are two variants to choose from - the 2.0 and 2.4, which are priced from RM110,120 and RM134,395 respectively.
Powering the entry-level variant is a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol SOHC four-pot that develops 154 bhp at 6,300rpm and 189 Nm of torque at 4,300rpm. A 2.4-litre DOHC mill motivates the range topping Proton Perdana by outputting 178 bhp at 6,500rpm and 222 Nm at 4,300rpm. Both engines are paired to a five-speed automatic transmission.
While Proton had the liberty to completely have their own taste and flavour for the exterior design, the interior is left untouched. A new centre stack sits in an otherwise unaltered instrument panel moulding. Mirroring the new generation Honda Accord, Proton has displaced the donor car’s clumsy keyboard button console with a touchscreen to operate audio controls.
The specifications also mirror the eighth generation Honda Accord, with 2.0-litre variant being equipped with 17-inch wheels, fabric seats, powered driver's seat adjustment, cruise control, 4 airbags and absence of ESC.
ESC and other niceties such as GPS navigator, audio subwoofer, leather upholstery, HID headlamps, powered passenger's seat adjustment and paddles shifts are exclusively available in the 2.4 variant. A full bodykit completes the exterior styling for the 2.4.
The basic warranty coverage for Proton vehicles is 5 years or 150,000-kilometre mileage, whichever occurs first.
