  • 2020 Renault Captur
    RM 1,114/Month RM 105,289

Key Highlights

Small turbo 1.2L engine, low road tax Funky design, a break from the ordinary Good looking and practical interior
Great handling Rear seats with sliding function High level of features

TC Euro Cars, the official distributor of Renault vehicles in Malaysia offers the compact Captur SUV in a single variant with a price tag of RM109,000. Like the Peugeot 2008, Mazda CX-3 and Mitsubishi ASX that it competes with, this French B-segment SUV rides on the underpinnings of a compact hatchback, which in this case is the Renault Clio.

The Renault Captur features the carmaker's turbocharged 1.2-litre (Road tax is only RM 55 per annum) four-cylinder TCe 120 engine that will be good for 120 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The sole transmission option for us will be a six-speed efficient dual-clutch (EDC) automatic unit. Claimed consumption figures for the local-spec Captur is listed at 5.4-litres/100km.

The Captur is quite well specced and funky looking too, with two-tone exterior colours in bright shades, ESC, 4 airbags, automatic wipers, automatic air conditioning, and 7-inch infotainment system with reverse camera. The keyless access system even fits nicely into the wallet, as it sized like a credit card, albeit a bit thicker.

The Renault Captur comes with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

2015 Renault Captur - The Most Entertaining Crossover Yet?

The Renault Captur's 1.2-litre engine's benefits of forced induction are in fuel economy and a fat torque curve- with maximum torque from just 2,000 rpm, overtaking in city traffic is hardly a problem. The EDC shifts reasonably quickly and smoothly with very few noticeable quirks of the dual clutch system.

Good and Bad

rated fuel consumption is 5.9Ltr/100 Kms, in reality, 9.8Ltr/100 KMs. very difficulty handle the speed at low speed and in heavy traffic as gear shift is erratic, jerky and unpredictable. This seems more of a feature than a bug - Less

Cruising Near Perfection!

Driving this car is a luxury, albeit nimble the car is smooth and takes on minor bumps and potholes on any road with ease. The car comfortably embraces 5 full grown adults within its cabin and is stylish on the inside and eye catching on the outside, due to its well defined curves and contours. Renault has truly done an amazing job with the Captur, not to mention excellent fuel saving due to the small but efficient 1.2 turbo enjine featured to power up the remarkable vehicle. - Less

A car for those who wants to be different.

The Renault Captur is a very popular car in other parts of the world. As one of the best selling crossovers in Europe, it is certainly a car to look forward to driving and owning. Or is it? The Captur looks absolutely different from the usual japanese that Malaysians love, it is rather special with it's French flaire of looks. However, don't let looks deceive you as the car is not really as reliable as you would think, hence why Malaysians stay away from the brand. The build quality is not up to par even as the car rattles and vibrates alot even for a car that is only 6months old. The interior of the car is also different, featuring designs that is rather simple and easy to use. With auto-headlights and auto rain-sensing wipers, it is a nice car for new drivers on the road. However for a car company that claims to be modern and futuristic, the car lacks AEB and LED headlights, it doesn't have controllable traction control and ABS. The car has a rather tall ground clearance for anyone crazy enough to take the car off-road. But the high centre of gravity means the car is not stable at high speeds and at turns, but nothing a safety/stable bar cannot fix. The infotainment screen is a measly 6inch unit without Apple Carplay or Android Auto, only a bluetooth connection is available and you cannot modify anything in the system so no favourite apps for you, the worst thing is it crashes at times so not really dependable. All in all for a car with a price tag of RM117,000, a lot of stuff is missing from the car and the build quality could have been so much better. To give it a rating it'll be a sad 5/10. - Less
