2018 Toyota C-HRRM 1,563/MonthRM 137,300
The Toyota C-HR is the company's latest product to answer the consumers growing demand for a crossover. What sets the C-HR apart from other traditional Toyota models is its styling.
The C-HR or Compact High Rider has plenty of creases and swells all around the body. The rear door handles are hidden in the sloping roofline to create a coupe look.
Inside, the interior surfaces feature a diamond-theme. Occupants could feel slightly claustrophobic in the two-tone interior (black and brown), as the glass area is relatively small and the pillar trim and roof-lining are also dark colored.
Built on Toyota’s latest TNGA architecture, the C-HR promises greater driver engagement than other similar offerings by Toyota in the past. The C-HR rides on newly developed Macpherson struts suspension in front and double-wishbones in the rear. Toyota adds that large-diameter stabilizers and shock absorbers with optimized damping characteristics provides superior steering stability and a comfortable ride.
Compared to the competitors, the C-HR is somewhat in the middle in sizing (length and width). It is larger than its equivalent engine-sized competitor, the Honda HR-V, as well as the stylish Mazda CX-3, while smaller than the similarly priced Volkswagen Tiguan and Peugeot 3008.
Imported from Thailand and priced from RM145,500, only one powertrain is offered by UMWT. The 2ZR-FBE 1.8-litre engine generate outputs of 140 PS and 171 Nm of torque, 2 Nm less than the engine in the Corolla Altis. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT-type automatic that also allows for manual shifting of 7-virtual ratios.
Standard features in the C-HR include: automatic on/off halogen projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights (DRL), Auto folding side mirrors with puddle light, 17-inch silver painted wheels, Sporty front seats, black leather upholstery, 4.2-inch coloured information display with G-Force monitor, electric parking brake with hold function, 7-inch touchscreen system with DVD player, HDMI, Wi-Fi, Internet browser, 6 speakers, and reverse camera, 7 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, and blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert (RCTA).
Colour options include two dual-tone schemes (additional RM848) - Blue Metallic with Black roof and Red Mica with Black roof. Single body colour is available in White Pearl (also RM848 extra), Metal Stream Metallic, and Attitude Black Mica.
All new Toyota C-HR models will be backed by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty that is transferable to the next owner shall all terms and conditions be met.

So instead of thinking of the C-HR as a rather expensive compact SUV, think of it as a lower entry point into the growing premium lifestyle segment.View full review
