First introduced in 1966, Toyota has sold more than 38 million units of Corolla worldwide, making it the best-selling model of all time. The 2018 Toyota Corolla Altis is the eleventh generation model which has undergone a cosmetic update, with prices ranging from RM117,400 to RM134,900.

This C-segment Japanese sedan competes in one of the most competitive segment that is occupied by the likes of Honda Civic, Kia Cerato, Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Jetta, Mazda 3 and Ford Focus Sedan.

UMW Toyota Motor offers two different engines for Malaysian-market Corolla Altis. The top of the line 2.0V variant is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre 3ZR-FE inline four that outputs 145 PS and 187 Nm of torque, while under the hood of the other two variants is the 1.8-litre 2ZR-FE mill which is good for 139 PS and 173 Nm.

Interestingly, Malaysia is one of the very few markets in the ASEAN region to offer a 2.0-litre Dual VVT-i engine option. While the peak torque of 187 Nm is not class leading, the arrival of the peak torque at a low 3,600 rpm means one does not need to work the engine hard, contributing to better fuel consumption as well as interior quietness.

Both engines feature Dual VVT-i technology, which not only improves performance but also fuel economy. These engines are mated to a CVT-type automatic with seven-virtual cogs for sequential shift function, with the 2.0V having steering wheel shift paddles.

Standard features include automatic air conditioning, acoustic-glass windshield, smart entry and start system, head lamp integrated LED DRL, LED tail lamps, 60:40 split folding rear seats with reclining feature, 7 airbags, and ESC.

Infotainment system is a Toyota DVD-AVX system - a 7-inch touch screen with reverse camera and 6-speaker sound system.

The 1.8G, the most popular variant, adds auto folding side mirrors with reverse-link function, Optitron meter cluster with coloured 4.2-inch multi info. display, and combination leather upholstery. Both 1.8G and 1.8E variants are fitted with 16-inch tyres and wheels.

The sporty 2.0V variant comes with larger 17-inch wheels with 215/45R17 Michelin PS3 tyres, LED projector headlamps, steering wheel with paddle shift switches and cruise control, sports-type front seats with powered driver adjustment, and auto dimming rear view mirror.

Similar to other Toyota passenger car models, the Corolla Altis come with 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty, that is transferable to the next owner.
