At launch timing, Toyota's offering for those looking for an affordable seven-seater MPV within the budget of RM90,000 was the new Toyota Sienta. The MPV was available in two variants - 1.5G and 1.5V.
However, UMW Toyota has decided to only focus on one variant, the 1.5V, as of 15th of March 2018-2019.
Unlike the longitudinal-engine (north-south layout) rear-wheel driven Avanza and Innova, the Sienta sports a transverse (west-east) engine configuration with front-wheel drive, 1.5-litre NR-series engine with Dual VVT-i effectively the same unit as found in the Vios.
Rated outputs for both variants measure at 107 PS and 140 Nm, higher than the Avanza’s 105 PS and 136 Nm. Standard transmission is a CVT-type automatic with seven virtual ratios for manual selection. Impressively, rear disc brakes are standard, as is electronic stability control and knee airbag, first time by Toyota at this price range. ASEAN NCAP also awarded the Sienta with a 5-star rating.
Pricing for the Sienta 1.5V begins at RM97,000. The cheaper 1.5G variant has since been dropped.
Standard features for the Sienta 1.5V - Automatic LED projector headlamps, power dual sliding rear passenger doors, 16-inch rims, smart keyless entry ,auto climate control, brown fabric seats, rear air-con vents, 50:50 split-folding second and third row seats, dive-in third row seats, 6.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with reverse camera, Optitron meter with color display and leather-wrapped steering with audio controls.
This seven-seater also benefits from a five-year, unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty which is fully transferable to the next owner if the vehicle is sold off during the warranty tenure.
