Overview

Following the success of the Alphard and Vellfire in recovering lost ground from grey importers / 'recon' dealers, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) hopes to repeat the same formula with the Harrier – by offering 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty, English language infotainment controls and owner’s manual ('recon' models have Japanese language controls), support from Toyota’s after-sales network covering not just maintenance and repairs but also recalls.

This all-new Toyota Harrier is quite a departure from its predecessors. It’s no longer related to the Lexus RX but instead shares the same platform as the smaller Lexus NX. UMWT up the ante for their Harrier models by offering a much more powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that produces 231 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, versus the 'recon' dealers that offer a relatively 'asthmatic' 151PS / 193 Nm naturally aspirated engine hauling an SUV weighing over 1.6 tonnes.

The turbocharged engine is mated to a 6-speed conventional automatic transmission that only drives the front wheels.

The Toyota Harrier has similar dimensions to traditional mid-size SUVs, such as Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5 - 4.725 meters long, 1.835 meters wide and a wheelbase of 2.66 meters.

The Harrier offered by UMWT is available in two variants, Premium priced from RM238,000 and Luxury priced from RM259,900.

Standard features in both variants are: 18-inch tyres and wheels, LED head lamps with sequential indicator lamps, auto folding side mirrors with puddle lamps, auto tilt-away steering column, 'ultrasuede' seat covering, 7-inch infotainment system with HDMI, Wi-fi and reverse camera, and Toyota Safety Sense.

The Harrier is the first model from UMWT that offers Toyota Safety Sense. The advanced driving assistance system comprises of adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, active lane keeping assist and adaptive high-beam.

Upgrading to the Luxury variant gets you: Panoramic moonroof, powered tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, nano-e ionizer, Nappa leather upholstery, powered front seat adjustment with driver's memory and ventilation function, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

All new Toyota Harrier models will be backed by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty that is transferrable to the next owner shall all terms and conditions be met.

Toyota Harrier 2.0T Luxury – Late To Market But Worth The Wait

As quick as it was on a straight line, it felt more planted than we expected it to be while along long sweeping corners. When thrown around tighter bends, the fact that it is a typical top-heavy SUV became apparent as there was still body roll.

Good car which suitable for daily use

Own the car for around 2months, pump with Ron97 and city drive can get 10km per litre;12km per litre for highway drive. Pros: Powerful when turbo torque take place. Sport mode drive is awesome which can feel the car power coming aggressively. Comfortable drive. Minimal of car body roll for SUV. Suspension is good thus it is comfortable when drive in normal road. Good NVH, with 160km/hr. Drive, the engine and transmission noise still not really noticeable inside the car cabin. Stable when cruise in high speed. Low service price compared to continental car, first service only around 250. Cons: No apple play or Android play, infotainment system can be boring as it same as other local Toyota like old altis it vios. Most feature not allow to set while the car is moving, including the HDMI output. Lack of USB ports. Autonomous driving system not full range, only supported for 50km/hr and above. Car will feel heavy when turbo torque not taking place esp can in low speed, need to step deeper on the pedal if you want the car move fast. Will really recommended this car to others.

Toyota harrier still robust over the years

This toyota harrier (2003-2013) may be 10 years old but get behind the wheel and it still drives like a dream. It's got enough power and it really doesn't cost much to maintain. It's also got an evergreen exterior that doesn't ever look obsolete. It's definitely a good used car to buy if what you are looking for is something reliable and stylish.
